PERL ucfirst Function



Syntax

ucfirst EXPR

ucfirst


Definition and Usage

Returns the value of EXPR with only the first character uppercased. If EXPR is omitted, then uses $_.

Return Value

  • String with first character in uppercase.

Example

#!/usr/bin/perl -w

$string = 'the cat sat on the mat.';
$u_string = ucfirst($string);

print "First String |$string|\n";
print "Second String |$u_string|\n";

It will produce following results:

First String |the cat sat on the mat.|
Second String |The cat sat on the mat.|
