PERL setservent Function

Syntax

setservent STAYOPEN

Definition and Usage

As getservent() retriews the information for the next line in the services database, then setservent sets (or resets) the enumeration to the beginning of the set of host entries. This function should be called before the first call to getservent. The STAYOPEN argument is optional and unused on most systems.

Return Value

  • Nothing

Example

Try out following example:

#!/usr/bin/perl

while(($name, $aliases, $port_number,
     $protocol_name) = getservent()){

   print "Name = $name\n";
   print "Aliases = $aliases\n";
   print "Port Number = $port_number\n";
   print "Protocol Name = $protocol_name\n";

}

setservent();   # Rewind the database /etc/services;

while(($name, $aliases, $port_number,
     $protocol_name) = getservent()){

   print "Name = $name\n";
   print "Aliases = $aliases\n";
   print "Port Number = $port_number\n";
   print "Protocol Name = $protocol_name\n";

}

endservent();  # Closes the database;
